Karachi Olympics 2026 aims to promote youth engagement and revive the city’s sports culture by bringing together athletes from across Karachi for a multi-sport competition.
KARACHI — Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced the launch of a citywide sports event dubbed “Karachi Olympics 2026,” aimed at engaging youth and reviving Karachi’s image as a sports hub in Pakistan.

The announcement was made at a press briefing held by JI leaders this week.
According to the party’s Karachi chief, Monem Zafar Khan, the event is scheduled to take place from January 21 to February 1, 2026. It will feature athletes from across the metropolis competing in various sports.
Registration for participants began on January 8, with both online and in-person signups available at designated centres.

Multi-Sport Competitions Across the City
The Karachi Olympics 2026 is expected to feature a range of sporting disciplines, including cricket, football, table tennis, cycling, tug of war, and other events designed to attract widespread public participation.
JI officials said the competitions will be held at various venues across the city, offering opportunities for both amateur and semi-professional athletes.
Monem Zafar Khan emphasised that the event’s core objective is to provide a positive, healthy platform for youth, encouraging sportsmanship and community engagement across Karachi’s neighbourhoods.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to highlight hidden talent in the city,” he said.
Aimed at Reviving Sports Culture
JI’s announcement has drawn attention to the broader need for sports development in Karachi—a city that has been striving to reclaim its status as a centre for athletic excellence.
The party’s statement noted the importance of creating constructive activities that keep young people engaged and enable athletes to showcase their skills.
While the event is organised by a political party rather than official sports authorities, JI leaders argue it could serve as a model for future initiatives in collaboration with government and civic institutions.
They also urged local authorities to support similar events that promote physical fitness and unity.

Responses and Expectations
Sports enthusiasts and local youth groups have reacted positively to the announcement, welcoming a new opportunity to participate in competitive events close to home.
Some community organizers said they hope the 2026 Karachi Olympics will bring renewed focus to grassroots sports and help nurture future national athletes. (Suno News)
