Karachi is once again on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted intermittent heavy rainfall across Sindh from September 7 to 10.
The warning has sparked concerns about urban flooding in low-lying areas of the metropolis and its surrounding districts.

PMD Warns of Persistent Showers.
According to the PMD, the approaching weather system could bring intense downpours to Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sukkur, and other Sindh cities.
The department has cautioned that the expected heavy rainfall may overwhelm drainage systems and disrupt civic life.
NDMA Issues Flood and Landslide Alerts.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a precautionary alert. Warning of potential urban flooding in urban centers and landslides in hilly regions.
Rescue teams have been directed to remain on standby, while provincial authorities have been advised to prepare contingency plans.
Low-lying Karachi areas are at high risk.
Officials have identified Surjani Town, Korangi, Malir, Orangi, and Saddar among the most vulnerable zones in Karachi, where prolonged waterlogging is likely.
Poor drainage and past flooding experiences have raised concerns about traffic congestion and potential property damage.
Authorities Step Up Preparations.
The Sindh government and municipal corporations have been instructed to clear storm drains, mobilize dewatering equipment, and establish emergency response centers.
Hospitals and health facilities have also been instructed to remain prepared for possible rain-related emergencies.
Citizens are urged to Remain Vigilant.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors during heavy showers. Avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautionary measures such as securing electrical connections.
Fishermen have also been warned to avoid venturing into the sea during the forecast period due to high tides and rough waters.

Karachi’s Recurring Monsoon Challenge.
The urban flooding threat highlights once again the longstanding infrastructural weaknesses of Pakistan’s largest city.
Despite repeated warnings and emergency operations, the situation persists.
Karachi continues to struggle with drainage failures each monsoon season, leaving residents vulnerable to recurring crises.
