Live Firing of LY-80(N) Missile Demonstrates Long-Range Capability
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the naval exercise featured the live firing of the LY-80(N) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) from a vertical launching system at extended range.
The missile successfully intercepted and neutralised an aerial target—highlighting the Pakistan Navy’s modern air defence systems.
The exercise displayed Surface Target Engagement and Precision Strike capabilities.
The exercise also showcased additional offensive capabilities as Loitering Munition (LM) systems were used to engage and destroy surface targets.
This demonstrated the Navy’s precision strike potential in contemporary maritime warfare scenarios.
Unmanned Surface Vessel Trials Mark Technological Progress
Alongside missile tests, open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) were conducted.
The trials confirmed the USV’s high-speed performance, extreme manoeuvrability, precision navigation, and weather resilience—attributes that enhance naval operations in challenging maritime conditions.

Senior Leadership Praises Operational Competence
The exercise witnessed by the Commander, Pakistan Fleet, and Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, who lauded the officers and sailors for their professionalism and operational competence.
Leaders reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime interests under all conditions.
The significance of this test for maritime security and defence readiness is noteworthy.
The successful test comes as part of broader efforts to enhance Pakistan’s naval capabilities. Such exercises validate the integration of advanced weapons and autonomous systems while signalling deterrent readiness in the region.
Analysts say these drills are vital for maintaining a robust maritime security and national defence posture. (Geo News)
