SWABI, August 18 (APP): Nearly 15 people were swept away by flash floods in Dalori village, which is in the Swabi district, after a terrible cloudburst destroyed homes and caused damage.

The event has triggered landslides in hilly areas, complicating relief efforts.

Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Khan described the situation as dire due to the flooding caused by a powerful, swiftly moving stream.

He told reporters, “The flash flood was huge and caught people off guard.”

Rescue operations are currently underway, with teams from the district government, Rescue 1122, Haripur, and Mardan assisting in finding missing individuals and supporting their families.

A state of emergency has been announced, and people in the area have been told to stay away from rivers and streams.

Farmers reported significant financial losses due to flooding of their vegetable and maize fields, which severely impacted the area’s agricultural sector.

Officials in charge of disaster management in the district stated that rescue teams have been sent to help, and work is still being done to assess the extent of the damage.

So far, no deaths have been recorded, but officials have warned of possible health risks from standing water and inadequate sanitation.

Many people who lived there spent the night scared and asked the government to help them right away to fix the damage to the infrastructure and get basic services back up and running.

One villager spoke for the whole community when they said, “We have lost everything—our crops, our homes, our ways of making a living.”

Meteorologists said the cloudburst was very unusual for this time of year. It made people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa more worried about how changing weather trends are increasingly affecting rural areas.
