Virat Kohli breaks

Virat Kohli breaks the 28,000-run record by becoming the fastest batter in international cricket to reach the historic milestone.

In just 624 innings during the first ODI against New Zealand at Vadodara on January 11, 2026, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli set a new record by becoming the fastest batter in history to reach 28,000 international runs.

This feat eclipsed the long-standing record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Breaking the Icons’ Records

Kohli’s achievement came earlier than both Sachin Tendulkar (644 innings) and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara (666 innings), making him the quickest to hit the 28,000-run mark across all formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

Second-Highest Run Scorer in Cricket History

Alongside becoming the fastest to the milestone, Kohli also overtook Kumar Sangakkara’s career total of 28,016 international runs. This achievement propelled Kohli into second place on the all-time run-scorers list, trailing only Tendulkar’s 34,357 runs.

Memorable Moment in Vadodara

Kohli reached the milestone with a boundary off New Zealand spinner Adithya Ashok during India’s chase of 301.

He then passed Sangakkara’s tally with a single in the 18th over, further underlining his consistency and class.
